The Numbers Tell the Story
The numbers are hard to ignore. The global hair care appliances market was valued at $10.9 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $19.2 billion by 2035.
The global hair loss treatment market is forecasted to reach $4.8 billion by 2027. The scalp care market is projected to grow at a 7.1% CAGR from 2023 to 2030. These are adjacent markets that hair dryer brands can tap into—not by becoming medical devices, but by positioning dryers as scalp wellness tools rather than just drying tools.
At Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna 2026—which drew more than 255,000 visitors and 3,000 exhibitors from over 60 countries—scalp care emerged as a dominant theme. BeautyStreams identified “Hair Ware” as one of five key global trends, spotlighting next-generation tools and devices that are becoming integral to hair care.
The message is clear: scalp protection is becoming a non-negotiable feature in premium hair dryers.

What the Top Brands Are Doing
Dyson has been the most visible player. The Supersonic Nural features a Scalp Protect Mode that uses a time-of-flight sensor to measure distance from the scalp and automatically adjust heat and airflow. In Scalp Protect Mode, heat is automatically reduced to 55°C as the dryer gets closer to the scalp—protecting new hair growth during styling.
ghd took a different but equally compelling approach with its Speed hair dryer, featuring halo™ dual-airflow technology: a halo of cool air surrounds the heated airflow, protecting the scalp from heat while the barrel and attachments stay cool to the touch even at the highest setting.
Dreame pushed the boundary further at CES 2026 with its AI-powered hair dryer, featuring sensors that scan scalp health and assess hair damage, automatically adjusting temperature, wind speed, and airflow direction in real time.
Other brands are following suit. OSOM Professional has an infrared hair dryer designed for hair therapy that nourishes hair and scalp, restoring damaged hair and preventing early-stage hair loss. YA-MAN combines red light and infrared technology to stimulate the scalp while drying.
The Compliance Landscape: What’s Changing and Why It Matters
The EU ErP Directive (Energy-related Products) continues to tighten energy efficiency requirements for household appliances. The latest standards specifically target standby power consumption, motor efficiency, and overall energy use of hair dryers. Products that fail to meet these benchmarks simply cannot enter the European market.
IEC 60335-2-23—the international safety standard for hair care appliances—is regularly updated to address emerging technologies. The standard covers everything from leakage current and dielectric strength to thermal protection and mechanical hazards. For products incorporating new features like sensors, infrared emitters, or advanced heat management systems, compliance requires careful engineering from the earliest design stages.
The EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is rolling out between 2025 and 2030, requiring products to provide transparent data on carbon footprint, durability, repairability, and recyclability. A Digital Product Passport will become mandatory for many product categories.
What does this mean for brand owners? Simply put: compliance can no longer be an afterthought. A manufacturer that treats compliance as a final testing step—rather than integrating it from the first blueprint—will create delays, cost overruns, and market access barriers for your brand.
At ZCY, compliance is built into our DNA. As a high-speed hair dryer manufacturer, our products are engineered from the ground up to meet major international standards: CE, CB, FCC, UKCA, UL, PSE, KC, and CCC. Our ISO 9001-certified quality management system ensures that every unit leaving our facility meets these requirements—not just in theory, but in practice. We maintain complete traceability and documentation for every production batch, giving our OEM/ODM partners confidence in their supply chain.
As scalp care features become more sophisticated and regulatory scrutiny increases, having a partner that already navigates these requirements is not just convenient—it is invaluable.
From Product to Service: The New Business Model
The shift from “dryer” to “scalp wellness device” is not just a product evolution—it is a business model evolution. Brands that treat scalp care as a one-off product sale are missing the bigger picture. The real value lies in building ongoing relationships with consumers.
At ZCY, we have seen this model work in practice. As a professional hair tool OEM/ODM supplier, we have partnered with international beauty brands across Europe, North America, and Asia—helping them bring differentiated scalp care products to market with speed and reliability. Our vertical integration—from motor manufacturing to final assembly—means we can incorporate new features faster and with tighter quality control than manufacturers that rely on third-party components. Our customization capabilities—colors, logos, packaging, voltage, cable length—extend to technology integration, allowing brands to create truly unique products. And our scalable production—1,000+ employees, 50,000 units daily capacity—means we can take a brand from prototype to full-scale production without the bottlenecks that plague smaller manufacturers.
For brands willing to invest in this vision, the rewards are significant. The premium segment is growing. Consumer willingness to pay for genuine technology is increasing. And the competitive landscape is still forming—there is room for differentiated, value-driven products that deliver genuine scalp care at accessible price points.
The question is not whether scalp care will become a standard feature in premium hair dryers. It already is. The question is who will get there first—and who will do it right.
At ZCY, we are ready to help brands answer that question.
